HISTORY: Church and Mass - Convento de Santa Clara Camino de Santa Clara. Mass daily at 08:30. During summer there may be Mass at 19:00 in the Iglesia de San Juan.
PLAIN: Bar La Oliva, near Albergue de Peregrinos recommended - @ and Meal: 7€. Restaurante Antón has rooms in a house opposite and late breakfast. Good panadería, a supermercado and banks.
HISTORY: A Roman town, possibly founded by Julius Caesar, built in terraces around a hill. Now visited mainly by pilgrims. A straggling town, it takes about 20 minutes to walk its length. In summer it may be possible to visit three churches on one ticket for 3€. They are Santo Domingo (14thc. Mass 19:00; small museum with a statue of Santa María Peregrina on the upper floor), Santa María del Manzano (13th /17th c. statue of St. James) and San Juan (with a fine cloister). Ruined 13th c. castle on the hill.
PLAIN: Between Castrojeriz and Hospital de San Nicolás you enter the next province of Castile and León, Palencia.
