Foncebadón is often a popular choice for an overnight stay for those wishing to see the sunrise over the Cruz de Ferro.
The pass at Foncebadón over the Irago mountains has been in use since at least Roman times. However, by the 1990s the village was almost completely abandoned and its 11th century church in ruins. Since the turn of the century several albergues and bars have opened in this town which still feels like a ghost town. We can only hope that the Camino will continue to help resuscitate this pretty village.
