DIRECTIONS: 6 km detour to Vilar de Donas. Take the lane on the right after Portos (not the path at km 71). The Church of El Salvador has 14th c. wall paintings and impressive effigies of Knights of the Order of Santiago, who settled here in 1184. Their role was not to protect pilgrims, although they did provide hospitals for them, but to protect Christian Spain against the Moors. Open Tues-Fri 10:00-15:00, Sat-Sun 13:00-19:00. Try house no 2 for key if the church is closed.
