HISTORY: An important small market town with several churches: San Roque on right at the entry to the town. Santa María on western outskirts. Key available nearby. Sancti Spiritus, the parish church is in the town centre. Sello available 17:00-19:00.
HISTORY: Church and Mass - The Iglesia Sancti Spiritus was formerly a Franciscan monastery in the 14th c. On the main altar there is a magnificent baroque altar piece by created by Francisco de Castro Canseco in the 17th c. He also sculpted the impressive altarpiece of the Church of San Paio in Santiago. Daily Mass 19.15.
DIRECTIONS: There is no shop in Ribadiso de Baixo, so if you intend to cook there buy food here.
PLAIN: Melide is famous for pulpo (octopus) a Galcian speciality. To try it at its best go to Casa/Pulpería Ezequiel, a traditional Pulpería serving spiced octopus in wine on wooden platters with bread and that other delight of Galicia, white Ribeiro Wine. Casa Ezequiel is on the left hand side of the main road shortly before the main square.
