You arrive first in the suburb of San Lázaro, which has a chapel on the site of a former leper Hospital.

Although you are now in Santiago de Compostela, it will take you at least another three quarters of an hour to reach your ultimate destination, the Cathedral in the old quarter.

As you walk down from Monte de Gozo be aware that soon you will encounter the first albergues - they are all signed. If you have chosen an albergue or reserved a place you may wish to ensure that you don’t pass it on the way into Santiago only to have to walk back out again. Also, these days the Cathedral does not allow admission to pilgrims with rucksacks, so you may care to check into your albergue before walking into the centre. After the chapel of San Lázaro, the pilgrim route is via c/de los Concheiros, r/San Pedro, Cruz de Homo Santo (a calvary), Puerto del Camino, Casa Reales, Plaza de Cervantes, c/Azabachería, Plaza de Inmaculada (aka Azabachería), then straight on and down a flight of steps under the arch. Turn left into the main square in front of the Cathedral, the Plaza del Obradoiro.
