DIRECTIONS: The route via Olmos de Atapuerca is 1.5 km shorter, follows paths through cornfields (no villages) and meets with main route just before the flyover crossing the motorway.

DIRECTIONS: In Villafría, cross the Madrid-Irún railway then an 8 km hike into the centre of Burgos along the main N1 (the N1 has broad pavements). Watch out for a crucial turning R before a road junction after about 5 km (at a tall building with a Telefónica sign on top) or you will lose the yellow arrows leading to the route through the centre of the city.
