HISTORY: Small town with the Iglesia de San Martín, one of the most perfect Romanesque churches in Spain. Built in 1066, restored c.1900, deconsecrated. The exterior has 315 carved figures (of animals, humans, monsters, flowers etc) stretching all round the exterior at roof level. Open 10:00-14:00 & 16:30-20:00; winter 10:00-14:00 & 15:00-18:30. 1€. Inside are wooden statues of San Martín and Santiago. Other churches are the gothic Santa María (near train station, redundant and locked), and San Pedro, part of which is a museum of religious art, 11:00-14:00 & 17:30-18:30, X Mondays. Sello available from turismo and also from the parish priest (door marked Sello next to restaurant in main square).

DIRECTIONS: From Frómista to Carrion de los Condes a broad gravel track, senda de peregrinos, has been made for pilgrims.
