There are two bars in San Justo, the first on the right (Bar El Caño) about 500m after the statue is fine but I prefer the second bar called Oasis which is about another 300m on the left which is more comfortable and usually offers a tasty tapas with each drink.

Just at the entrance to San Justo you will come across an area with a large granite crucero and a great view over Astorga. This is dedicated to the fifth century Saint Toribio who legend holds wept here as he looked back over Astorga on his escape from King Theoderic who had just captured Astorga. Saint Toribio, who had been the bishop in Astorga, carried with him the largest remaining piece of the true cross. This relic and the remains of Saint Toribio are now venerated in the monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana in Potes (Cantabria).

On the benches near the crucero you will often find a local busker who for a small donation will serenade you with his guitar which he manages to spin mid-song.

A few metres further on you will come across the Fuente del peregrino (pilgrims fountain) which is the statue of a thirsty pilgrim drinking from a gourd. Next to the statue is a real drinking fountain which can be quite challenging until you realise you must turn a faucet rather than press a button. Please remember to turn the faucet off after you have refreshed yourself.
