Pedrouzo
Church and Mass - Iglesia de Santa Eulalia. Daily Pilgrims’ Mass at 19:30.
A village in a eucalyptus forest. Shops, including a supermercado and cafetería, next to the Xunta albergue. Bars, bank and health centre.
To rejoin the camino take the main road to the Casa do Concello. Turn up the road by the side of the building to rejoin the camino near a school on the edge of the forest. Alternatively, backtrack east to join the camino where it crosses the main road.
Pedrouzo is also known as Arca. It is a relatively modern town though recent excavations have revealed a pilgrim cemetery which is thought to have been attached to the Hospital de Santa Eulalia de Arca of which nothing remains. You have to detour off the Camino to enter the main street in Pedrouzo which has several bars/cafés and restaurants to service the needs of the pilgrims. As this is the last major stopping point before Santiago, accommodation is often fully booked so it is advisable to book in advance as the next major albergue is another 15 km away.
There are several reasonable restaurants in Pedrouzo but of note is "Taste the Way" which is on the high street and also offers a really good take out service. The restaurant "O Pedrouzo" on Rúa Concello offers only two options either veal steak or veal chop but both options are magnificent. The meat is partially cooked and cut into strips which you then finish cooking to your choice on a hot stone on the table. All in all, a truly memorable experience.
