HISTORY: A beautiful town that has always been associated with the pilgrimage. Rich in monuments and has a charter dating back to 1090. The city is dominated by the fortified pilgrimage church of San Pedro de la Rúa notable for its great tower, Romanesque interior and the beautiful Romanesque cloister, with two wings (the other two were destroyed in 1572). The church dating from the 12th century is the oldest in the city. The pórtico, with a series of lobed arches shows clear Moorish influences. The church has three naves that house various artistic treasures, among which are the sculptures of San Andrés and San Pedro, a Romanesque Virgin, a Gothic statue of Our Lady of the O, the Romanesque stalls of the choir and a baptismal font. The cloister is impressive particularly the beautifully sculpted capitals.
HISTORY: Church and Mass - Iglesia de San Miguel, Plaza de San Miguel, has a north doorway that is one of the gems of the Camino. Mass: Wed, Fri and Sat 19:00, Sun 11:30, with pilgrim blessing.
PLAIN: Estella has many other small reasonably priced hotels and restaurants.
