The spring just before the village near the bridge is non potable (‘not drinkable’).

Octagonal Romanesque Church of Santo Sepulcro. Clear mudéjar influence. Well worth a visit. Check outside church for keyholder or ask at El Mesón. Church is open during the day with volunteer attendants. (1€ donation suggested).

Torres del Río was also known as Torres de Sansol due to the close physical connection of the two towns. Again, there is evidence of a Roman settlement here but the first documented notes of this town are from the reconqest of the town from the Moors by Sancho I in 914. Like Los Arcos this town also passed under Castilian rule from 1463 until 1753 when it was returned to the Kingdom of Navarra. In 1809, during the Napoleonic wars a band of 500 locals managed to beat in battle well armed group of 800 French soldiers and drive them back to Estella.

The small octagonal shaped church you pass just before the La Pata de Oca albergue is called Santo Sepulchro and was built between 1160 and 1170. This octagonal design is based the church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem and is typical of Templar churches. It is believed that the town may have been the outpost of a Templar priory established in Logroño in 1144. You will notice on top is a latern tower where fires may have been lighted to help late wandering guide pilgrims in to the safety of the Templar's protection. From the outside the style is clearly Romanesque but inside you can see the geometric patterns in the crossed arches of the vaulted roof typical of what is called Mudejar architecture. Mudejar architecture is a tradition of geometric Islamic architecture which survived the Christianization of Spain.
