The next stretch of the camino consists largely of a waymarked forest path that passes a monument to a group of local people executed during the Spanish Civil War. Cyclists can take the road route to Valdefuentes, a 8.5 km climb to the Alto de la Pedraja. There is the gothic chapel of Santiago (locked) in a rural setting by the Rio Roblegardo.

In Roman times this town was known as Auca from which the name Oca is derived. Literally the name means Fenchtown of the Mountains of Auca but the terminology “Frenchtown” was generically applied to any town with a large migrant population.

Even during the Visigothic (pre-Moorish) times, this town appears to have been extremely important having its own bishop.
