Laguna de Castilla
Laguna de Castilla is the last hamlet in Castille and León. The climb from here up to O Cebreiro is stunning and a kilometre before you reach O Cebreiro you will pass into Galicia which is marked by a large stone marker. From here on in, you will encounter stone markers every 300 or 400 metres all the way to Santiago. These markers are called mojones. These plaques give the distance in metres to Santiago. The distances on the mojones are for more the most direct route to Santiago and varies slightly from the calculated distance in this book. The difference is explained by the occasional points where the main Camino takes a more picturesque “Camino Complimentario” route such as when exiting Portomarín.
If you are arriving at the bar/albergue in Laguna around lunchtime or dinnertime offers fantastic cooked ribs (costillas).
