HISTORY: Ancient restored hilltop village. Churches of San Roman, 12th & 16th c, and Santa Catalina, 13th c. Fine stretch of Roman road and bridge. Río Salado, between Cirauqui and Lorca is mentioned in the 12th c Pilgrim Guide - Book 5 of the manuscript compilation known as the Liber Sancti Jacobi or Codex Calixtinus. The water was reputed to be bad and horses that drank it did not survive. This was known to the local population who would not tell pilgrims but would wait with knives so that they could skin the dead animals.
