HISTORY: Church and Mass - The Iglesia de Santa María 12th c to 18th c. has gothic cloisters. Mass at 19:30 daily and Sun at 12:30. Pilgrims’ blessing.
HISTORY: The church of Santa María de los Arcos is one of the most outstanding churches in Navarra. It is a building of considerable presence with rich decoration in its design. The church was built and then renovated in a number of stages during the twelfth, thirteenth, sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Therefore several styles are evident from the Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods. Often in the church new decorative features were laid upon previous structures. The great Baroque altarpiece is a central feature of the church with rich carving surrounding the figure of Our Lady. Other notable altar pieces in the church are those in the altars of Saint John the Baptist, the Virgin of the Rosary, Saint Francis Xavier and in the chapel of Saint Gregorio Ostiense.
HISTORY: The church has a single nave and boasts three other very significant features – the carved stonework in the choir executed in the late Renaissance Mannerist style, the striking 18th century organ held to be one of the finest instruments of its type in Navarra and the late 16th century cloister.
