Nobody is quite sure about the origins of the name Azofra. One theory is that Azofra comes from the Arabic "as-suxra" meanining "the tribute". The other theory is name comes from Hebrew "zophar" and means "beautiful, beautiful". The bars slightly further down the main road around the fountain seem to be slightly better the first couple of bars. This is like many villages on the Camino where the rule of thumb is that the second bar or cafe is generally the better bar or cafe as it must try harder to attract business.
